Challenging Environments

Challenging Environments was a project I developed when I realised how isolated I felt living in the city of Preston, Lancashire.

Even though Preston is only small, my regular trips home to a small village in north east England made me realise how lonely cities can be.

With this in mind, I wanted to create a body of work which looked at the binary opposition between rural and urban areas and how one cannot survive without the other.

In order to do this, I took photographs in both rural and urban areas at points which filled me with some kind of emotion - admiration, acheivement, beauty, isolation - and used Photoshop to turn them into a double exposure

Challenging Environments was exhibited as part of a group show in PR1 Gattery, Preston in October 2012. It was later exhibited alongside Reflections at Tyneside Coffee Rooms, Newcastle, August 2013 – November 2013.
